Rite Aid, Kroger and HT

So I decided to dive into the world of Rite Aid today. I have avoided it recently because of their doing so poorly. I am scared I will get stuck with Rebate Checks I can't use! But I decided to give them a try as a few of the deals were huge money makers. Also did a few quick fill in trips at Kroger and HT.

WOW just read all those comments

The Consumerist is a website that is supposed to be all about the consumer. They have stories about all sorts of stuff. Someone posted a link to a story about Kmart from there and then I found a story about a super couponer.

I read alot of the comments on both stories.

I am still stunned by the hostility and issues people have with coupons and couponers. Also the misguided impressions and I will say even flat out ignorance.

Just WOW.....

Kroger aka Taking Advantage of a Store Sale :)

So Kroger is NOT my favorite store as you may know but sometimes the deals are too good to pass up. I try to make sure that I am mostly getting the upperhand on them just because they have been so rotten to us couponers in my area. With that being said, I can't stop shopping there completely. LOL

Went today to do the Pillsbury CAT deal. Buy 5 or more get $3 OYNO cat. The small cans, 4-5 count, are on sale for 10/$10. Combine with the various coupons for Pillsbury (and there are a TON) and it makes for a moneymaker!! For the stores that do not have problems with doubling this can be REALLY awesome. For those of us that do have a store with *issues* it makes it a bit more of a challenge but still doable.

Transaction #1-
12 Big K Colas (cheapest store brand around right now)

Office Depot SCORE!

I have to go to Office Depot and Staples for my work and every now and then get really lucky on a good deal!

Today they had Expo Dry Erase Marker sets (the pen-size markers in 16 misc. colors) on clearance in a buggy at the front of the store. They were clearanced to 3.50. I asked what the original price had been (not something I normally buy) to see if it was really a good deal or not and the manager said" Take as many as you want! I will mark them to $1 to just be rid of them."
OMG!!!

I got:

8 packs of the 16 count Expo Fine Tip dry erase markers or 128 markers (appears to retail for around 14.00 EACH pack!!!!! marked down to 3.50 each)
1 pack that had 4 of the *standard* colors (red, blue, green and black) of the larger marker size, a bottle of special cleaning fluid and an eraser all in one pack for $1 (this showed retail of 10.49, marked down to 2.50)
1 Large Empty Desk calander (the kind that just have the empty boxes. No dates or years printed on it. For $1. (these appear to be about 9.00 or so normally, went with the low number I found)

So a conservative estimate total regular retail- 131.00
Total sale price (75% or so off regular retail) before manager said $1- 30.75
Saved- 120.32 or 20.07
Spent- 10.68!!!!

That is just amazing.

My daughter LOVES these. She has a chalkboard/dry erase board easel that she loves to play school with. The markers are just SO expensive that it is a rare treat when she gets some new ones. These will get put away and given out now as a special toy on a fairly regular basis (for having a good week at school etc!).

Walgreens

Hubbie went and got his RX filled and WOOT it was at CVS to start with so we transferred to Walgreens and got ANOTHER $25 Gift Card. That is great because I did not get any of the freebies this month so I will have some money to start with next month! Plus I still have one more of those RX Q's to transfer back to CVS (mine takes competitor Q's) with next month!!
He also got himself and Little One a big box of Valentines Candy at 75% off and a new pair of headphones for his computer (on sale, I was SO PROUD!).

Bleh...

Well darn it, I guess I missed the cutoff by ONE DAY for the Oil Of Olay $15 Gift Card rebate. I got a rejection letter, the original envelope, receipt and rebate form returned to me today. Hate that but will take it as a lesson learned to go ahead and get the rebates mailed as soon as I get them and not wait next time. I wonder if I have any others I cut it too close on????

Kroger, Harris Teeter and Angel Food Ministries

I went to Kroger and HT today and also picked up my Angel Food boxes. They are not bad. I really like the Fruit and Vege one. The produce was nice, all in great shape and there was PLENTY of it! The rest of it is brands I have NEVER heard of but from what I have read on forums and other blogs the food is pretty good. We will see. As usual, I am listing all stores seperately. If you want to see what I got in the Angel Food boxes check out my original post.

Harris Teeter-
I have NO idea how this happened but I will list what I bought and what I *think* happened.

I was planning on two transactions today so I could do the Clint Bowyer/Nascar buy 10 participating products and get $4 off the order. PLUS, there is a CAT deal good thru tomorrow where if you guy 5 Betty Crocker participating Fruit Snacks you get a CAT for 3.50 OYNO. As the BC Fruit Snacks are part of the first deal I knew combining those two deals together with coupons makes for a really nice deal! Then I was going to use the 3.50 OYNO for transaction #2.

Here is what I bought-
Transaction #1-
2 BC Fruit Gushers
1 BC Fruit Roll Up
1 BC Fruit By The Foot
1 BC Fruit Stickerz
1 Chex Mix Bars
1 Fiber One Bars
2 Curves Bars
1 BC Cookie Mix

Received- 2.50 OYNO Cat!!!!!!
Both were from General Mills. Either there is a hidden CAT deal or somehow the combination of granola bars triggered the other CAT offer they have right now for Nature Valley Granola Bars??? Buy 4 get 2.50 OYNO. So not sure how it happened but I was THRILLED that it did. No guarantees it will work but if you got the Q's try the same combo I did and see if you get it too. Also, as I have no idea what exactly triggered it I have no idea when it ends.

Transaction #2-
3 Ballpark Bun Length Hot Dogs (only ones that work for this deal) B1G2Free 1.00/2 Insert
5 Old Orchard Apple Blend Juices B2G3Free 1.00/2 Insert

I do not usually link to other blogs etc but this is a situation that ALL couponers need to be aware of and get involved in as it could affect us all in the end!!!

Red Plum has made the decision to stop the inserts in several markets around the country. They are going to a direct mail approach. This hurts those of us who buy multiple papers as that will no longer be an option in those areas affected!!

Go here to see the campaign to stop this and what you can do to help in the fight to bring back the inserts!!

Happened to be in there when the manager was scanning stuff to check prices.
Got a great deal on glue sticks!
2 4 packs of Glue Sticks @ .10 each

Total-.21
Not sure what the normal price would be but I know that was a great deal!
So in all I am expecting to spend probably around $60 more for the rest of February (this includes the $45 mentioned in the previous post.) Making my total spent for January and February around $900. And my pantry is still full!! I should be able to do minimal shopping in March as well so I am starting to even out that yearly number.

WOOT!!!

I got my very first EVER mailed coupons from a grocery store!!! And it was from Food Lion of all places!!! 1 for $6 off after spending $25 and 1 for a free FL 2 Liter Cola. These are awesome for us and I am so excited!!!

I have a few shopping trips planned for tomorrow. One for FL to use my new Q's plus they have some nice deals this week. And one for HT. HT also has some good deals. Should come out to around $45 total OOP so we will see how it goes. Some of these are the kinda deals that may or may not work out just right. LOL

Over 1/2 way there!

Over halfway into the month and we are doing pretty good on spending as little as possible. My freezer and pantry or still full too. And I have AngelFood pickup next weekend! So besides milk, sodas and probably some bread I will have very little spending to do. Unless of course an incredible deal pops up. But looking at this past weeks sales I am thinking this may be a slow month on the super deals.

I never win anything!

I am soo jealous. I would LOVE to win free groceries for a year. Over at $5 Dinners she has!!! And now she is giving folks a chance to win a $25 WM Gift Card!

*COUGH*

Yeap we have been sick around here the last few days so obviously no shopping! And with just a little funds until Friday I doubt there will be much shopping until next weekend if then. (Picking up my Angel Food Ministries box on Saturday!)

Not to mention very very BLAH deals this week so far. Just nothing that really looks good or is that good of a deal so for me it turned out to be a good thing I shopped so much in January. happily living off the stockpile for now!

I think I might have found a new love

Lowes Foods. I guess I had not really given it a chance before. Their prices overall seemed so much higher than everyone else. But after today I may have found a new store.

I went in to take advantage of the 11 hour sale today. I had decided that to reach the $25 mark needed I would get the 1.99lb chicken breasts and the 1.19lb chicken thighs. But... They were sold out!!! There was nothing else I needed enough of to get to $25. The nice meat man said he would have more in tomorrow. But I want my CHEAP Frosted Flakes and Pepsi's I cried. I went to customer service to see if there was anything they could do. She called the manager who quickly said to give me a substitute item at the sale price!!! So the meat man was more than happy to give me the substitution.

I checked out and on the way out I saw the store manager. I stopped and chatted with him for a few minutes. I told him how happy I was that they had been willing, even happy, to substitute the chicken for me so I could get the 11 hour sale deals. I also told him how unhappy I had been with Kroger lately because of their silly coupon bi-polar ever-changing policy and the HORRIBLE customer service. He said they had done alot of research and had lowered and were continuing to lower their prices to beat Kroger. I told him that he would be seeing alot more of me if that were true because the customer service had been so wonderful in Lowes. I let him know that those little things really made a big difference to shoppers.

So Krogers, as much as I loved your deals, until you either get your act together or close your doors(and apparently this is a real possibility for our local store as their numbers are that bad) I will not be shopping there much.

Here is my trip today!

Lowes Foods-
2 4 Pack Chicken Thighs 50% off manager markdown! 3.70 total!
2 3 piece Beef Cube Steak 50% off manager markdown! 2.89 total!
10 cans LF Beef/Chicken Broth @ 2/$1

I warned you. No shopping yet except to grab some milk and a few drinks. Don't have the receipt handy though. Will have to update it later. I will probably hit the Lowes Foods 13 hour sale tomorrow and maybe the Kroger one too. Til then....

More Triples!

Back this morning to get the OOS and cold items I didn't pick up on Thursday.
At the Old HT near the college, they were out of Gain?!?! But both stores had restocked the Palmolive Pure and Clean!!!! Also, the Pillsbury Grands were out at the Old HT (they said they had completed restocking from the truck) and the New HT was REALLY low on them. Finally, the Old HT tripled my Kraft .75/1 blinkies (altho they did beep, prompting the cashier to key in the amount of the Q, he then had to push a button to triple them), the New HT would not triple them so beware if using these, it is YMMV now!

HT Triples and Sams Club!!!

Wellll ya know I couldn't resist doing a *little* shopping during Triples. But there was not alot that seemed like a *must have* this time so I came out pretty good.

I also finished off the gift card at Sams Club today. Next time I go in I will probably cancel the membership. I have looked around a few times and done some price comparisons. They just can't beat the prices I can get with sales and coupons. At least not enough to justify the $40 membership fee.

Kroger and Piggly Wiggly

Well I couldn't help myself... Piggly Wiggly had whole bone in Ribeyes for 3.79pd. This is what I use for a *standing rib roast*. I had them find one for 16 pounds and cut it into 4 roasts. I then split the roasts with my mom. So for 31.56 I have 2 BEAUTIFUL rib roasts in my freezer now.

Also stopped by Kroger to check the manager's specials on veges and milk. They had all sorts of goodies on Manager's special!

A boring month ahead...

I suspect that this blog might be a bit boring overall for the next few weeks. I am going to *TRY* really hard to not buy alot as I bought SO much in January. But... I am sure some good deals will creep up and then I will be shopping again. Soooo until then I might post little snippets about this or that.

Baking day!

This week is a slow week for me workwise so I am gonna try to do some stuff I need to/want to do.
Today I am making Banana Bread. I love this stuff! I use my grandmother's recipe.

3 ripe bananas
1/2 cup butter (or margarine, just nothing low fat)
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups of flour
1 tsp baking soda

1. Mash the bananas with the mixer in a seperate bowl.
2. Cream butter, sugar and eggs.
3. Add flour and soda, mix well. Will be super thick!
4. Add bananas and mix well. Will still be thick but pourable.

Bake at 350 for 65-70 mins for large loaf pan. Makes one large bread.
You can make two smaller loaves, baking for about 50 mins. I am sure you could also adapt cooking time for mini loaves and muffin sizes as well. I would start checking around 20 mins or so probably.

This also freezes really well. I am making 2 large loaves and then going to experiment with the muffins. I am slicing one loaf, wrapping each slice in saran wrap and placing in a freezer bag to freeze. If the muffins come out, I will wrap each of those and freeze as well.

Oh no...

I had to go BACK to the store today! LOL

Hubbie announced today that he would like chicken wings. *sigh*

Luckily I had seen that Food Lion had a great deal on them, BOGO for 2.5lb bag. Makes them 4.99 each (picked up 4 bags at that amazing price, and I had 2 winetags for $1 off any chicken!). I also had forgotten to get him coffee for work. Again, FL to the rescue! Maxwell House on sell for 4.99 for the giant 30oz tubs. And I had forgotten eggs and he would need some vegetable oil to fry the wings in. PLUS, I wanted to get my FREE Hefty Cups (on sale BOGO 1.99/2, use the $1 off Hefty FLIP). And finally with it being SuperBowl Sunday I let him splurge and have a case of beer. On sale for 11.99.
